There was the sound of a mighty rushing wind. It was whirling all around us. Out on the windy streets of Winnipeg, Cliff and Wilma Derksen were surrounded by a media frenzy. They looked so small in the middle of that circle, but you could see that they were at peace. Their hearts were calm in the centre of the storm. Cliff and Wilma had just walked out of the court room where the judge had rendered a verdict of “not guilty” for the man who had been charged with their daughter’s death 33 three years earlier. There were so many unanswered questions. So many reasons for them to be frustrated and angry. But they were not. They were at peace. Their joy did not depend on the ability of a human court to provide answers or to find someone guilty. Peace was found in Jesus Christ, the One who had given them the joy of the Lord!

In a recent email, I received the following encouraging message.
I just finished reading your book In The Way of Jesus and all I can say is THANK YOU! This is one of the most life altering books I have ever read! You have put so many things into words that I have been feeling for some time now and answered numerous questions that I have struggled with regarding discipleship and the role of the church in our society. I felt a very strong "tug" in my spirit to buy your book the first time I saw it and I am so glad that I obeyed. It has revolutionized the way I view discipleship, missions and personal evangelism, and the function of the church. I also appreciated the easy to read, conversational style that you used in writing - it made it very easy to understand. Thank you again. I pray that others who read it are as challenged and changed by these words as I have been. to edit. |
